FTX 7-9 MARCH JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

83 Juno Beach, we are only 2 weeks away until our upcoming FTX!

Quick notes:

  • Hard copies of the joining instructions and kit list were distributed on Tuesday. A digital copy can be DOWNLOADED HERE.

  • All Level 4's that signed up are approved to attend the FTX as support staff

  • Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot accommodate any late sign ups. If anything changes, I will reach out to the cadets that emailed the squadron individually.

  • If you are unsure if you have signed up for the FTX or not, a full list of registered cadets can also be found HERE. Only those on this list will be permitted to attend. PLEASE NOTE - Some cadets may have signed up with their first name instead of last name. Please check the full list if you cannot find your name.

  • Don't forget - sleeping bags are NOT provided and all cadets must bring their own. Follow the kit list to ensure you are well prepared for our field training exercise and let's have some fun

Joining Instructions - FTX Courseulles

Kasota East Camp, Sylvan Lake, AB T4S 1S6

Level 1 & 2 Spring FTX 

83 Juno Beach will be conducting a Field Training Exercise for Level 1s and 2s to learn and practice some basic aircrew survival skills. Sign up is required. Only those that are in Level 1 and 2 that have signed up will be able to attend. 

When

Cadets must arrive at the Shepard Community Centre by 1700 (5:00PM) on Friday 07 March 2025 for kit check and equipment loading. 

Buses will depart immediately after kit check and loading and will not wait for any cadets. 

Cadets will return to the Shepard Community Centre for parental pick up by 1700 (5:00 PM) on Sunday 09 March 25. Parents – please arrive on time for pick up and ensure you are registered to receive notifications on Stack Team App to receive live notifications on any delays. 

Transport

Cadets will be transported to the Camp Kasota by yellow school buses. 

Where

The Field Training Exercise will be held at Kasota East Camp, Sylvan Lake, AB T4S 1S6 Cadets will be sleeping in cabins, and training will be conducted both indoors and outdoors.

What

A kit list is attached. Kit will be inspected prior to departure to ensure that each cadet has the required equipment and clothing.

Meals

CADETS MUST EAT PRIOR TO ARRIVING TO LHQ ON FRI, MARCH 7. We will not be eating dinner when we arrive to Camp Kasota. Cadets will be provided with military Meals Ready to Eat for lunch on Saturday only.  Fresh rations will be provided for all other meals by Roundabout Eatery in Sylvan Lake. We will have vegetarian options and dietary restrictions accommodated for. However, if cadets have special dietary requirements, they can also bring their own meals in a small cooler. We have access to a refrigerator. Please notify Lt Tran ASAP. 

Medications 

All medications will be provided to the First Aid Officer  upon arrival to LHQ and logged. If cadets have emergency medication (inhaler, epipen etc…) they are to keep it with their belongings. All other medications will be handed in to the First Aid Officer.

MANDATORY CADET KIT LIST

The following items are required for participation in the Field Training Exercise (FTX). A kit check will be performed prior to departure to the training site. Failure to possess any of the following items may exclude cadets from participation in the event. All participants are responsible for their own gear; any lost or stolen items are the sole responsibility of the cadet. This kit should be packed in a duffle bag or backpack.

REQUIRED ITEMS:

  • x1 set Field Training Uniform (FTU) tunic and pants (if issued)

  • x1 pair of issued FTU boots

  • x1 pair insulated winter boots

  • x1 cadet two-piece parka and liner (if issued), or civilian winter jacket

  • x1 insulated winter pants

  • x1 Beret (if issued)

  • x1 toque

  • x2 pair gloves or mittens

  • x2 shirts (blue issued t-shirt and long-sleeve shirt)

  • x5 pairs socks

  • x5 pairs undergarments

  • x1 set of thermal under layers

  • x1 set of sleepwear

  • x1 sweater or hoodie

  • x1 pair pants - no jeans

  • x1 brimmed hat (tilley, ball cap)

  • Toiletries kit (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hygiene products)

  • x1 washcloth

  • x1 pillow

  • x1 sleeping bag (should be suitable to temperatures down to 0oC)

  • notebook

  • pencils

  • backpack

  • flashlight (batteries if applicable) 

  • x1 refillable water bottle

  • mug, and

  • any prescribed medications (if applicable).

PROHIBITED ITEMS:

  • Knives (ONLY Level 5 cadets or Survival Instructors are authorized to bring a folding knife of

no more than 3” in length)

  • Alcohol, tobacco, drugs

  • Matches, lighters, or other fire starters

  • Inappropriate materials

  • Bear spray, pepper spray
